This past weekend, Jeff and I participated in a May Day protest in front of the White House to bring forth attention to the seriousness of Lyme Disease.
On Sunday, we then participated in the Loudoun Lyme 5K in Brambleton to bring awareness to the disease and need for more effective treatment for the disease. Many congressional representatives attended the 5K in support of our efforts.
When I was initially diagnosed in 2009, when I realized the stigma attached to this disease, and when I realized the number of people who were testing positive for Lyme, I predicted that within the next decade, Lyme disease would become the “Aids” epidemic of the 1980s. I don’t think I am too far off.
More people are protesting, more famous people are being infected and bringing light to the topic. Unfortunately, more people are dying from inaccurate testing and ineffective treatment.
